OUR PROCESS
Our process begins with the earth and with the forests of Cortes Island on the land of the traditional unceded territories of the Homalco, Tla'amin, and Klahoose First Nations, where the big leaf maple grows, covered in moss and ferns, huge and outstretched, reaching for the heavens. When there is blow down, or someone needs to take down a danger tree, such circumstances provide a supply of mape to local soyers where I have the lumber custom cut for our unique process. The lumber is kiln dried here at the shop before it is precisely machined and carefully joined into the end grain boards using Titebond III, a non toxic, food safe and water resistant glue of the highest quality. The boards are then carefully shaped and sanded to perfection. We water treat all our boards to raise the grain before giving the final hand sanding with 600grit. The boards are then given two coats of a blend of certified organic oils and bees wax. By carefully applying a little heat, we blend together the bees wax, hemp seed oil and fractionated MCT coconut oil in a pot on the stove. No mineral oil or petroleum products are used. Once the board is polished smooth and oiled to perfection, we use a stainless steel screw on the bottom to attach the non slip, non marking rubber feet that are of the highest quality.
The final touch is the magical laser engraving of our logo!
